Dr. Rui Zhu is a Professor and PhD Supervisor at Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, China. Zhu is the Awardee of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and Distinguished Professor of Jiangsu Province. Dr. Zhu was a Senior Scientist at the Institute of High Performance Computing, A*STAR, Singapore, a Research Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT Senseable City Lab. Dr. ZHu is the Chair of Educational Committee and was the Board Member of The International Society of Chinese Professional in Geographic Information Sciences, and the Board Member and Branch Secretary-General of the International Association for Natural Resources.
Dr. Zhu’s study focuses on GIScience and Solar Cities, which (i) advanced spatiotemporal data modelling in addressing the lack of data in sunlight fields modelling, (ii) constructed a spatiotemporal distribution model of global solar radiation in complex urban environments, and (iii) proposed theories and methods for spatial analysis and utilization of solar energy resources.
Dr. Zhu has served as the PI/Co-I for several research grants funded by the Singapore A*STAR, the University Grants Committee (Hong Kong, China), and NSFC, and published more than 100 SCI papers published in journals such as IJGIS, TGIS, The Innovation, Science Bulletin, and Applied Energy. Dr. Zhu is an Associate Editor of Springer Nature Computer Science, and Editor of Big Earth Data, Advances in Applied Energy, and Energy 360. Dr. Zhu is in the Stanford Top 2% Scientists and the awardee of Geospatial World 50 Rising Stars, ISDE Young Scientist Award, and Smart City Technology Innovation Award. His study has been reported by Singapore TV, Lianhe Zaobao, and MIT News.
