Grassland Resources Committee (GRC)
The Grassland Resources Committee is concerned with the conservation, restoration, utilization, and governance of grassland ecosystems and grassland resources. Its work covers natural grasslands, rangelands, pastoral systems, forage resources, biodiversity, grazing management, grassland degradation, desertification control, carbon sequestration, ecological restoration, and the livelihoods of pastoral communities. The Committee recognizes grasslands as essential ecological and productive systems that support biodiversity, livestock production, climate regulation, soil conservation, and cultural landscapes.
The mission of GRC is to advance scientific research and practical management of grassland resources, with the goal of maintaining ecological stability while supporting sustainable pastoral and agricultural development. It promotes interdisciplinary studies on grassland ecology, animal husbandry, soil and vegetation processes, climate change impacts, ecosystem services, land tenure, resource governance, and rural livelihoods. The Committee seeks to bridge ecological science and resource management by providing evidence-based solutions for grassland conservation and sustainable use.
The vision of GRC is to contribute to resilient, productive, and ecologically healthy grassland systems at regional and global scales. It supports the restoration of degraded grasslands, the optimization of grazing intensity, the protection of native vegetation and biodiversity, and the improvement of pastoral production systems. The Committee emphasizes that grassland management should not be limited to biomass production, but should also consider ecological functions, climate benefits, cultural values, and the socio-economic rights and needs of local communities.
The responsibilities of GRC include organizing academic seminars, field investigations, technical training, and international cooperation projects related to grassland resources. It supports monitoring systems, ecological assessment methods, restoration technologies, policy studies, and comparative research across different grassland regions. The Committee may also provide professional advice on grazing regulation, ecological compensation, grassland restoration, pastoral development, and climate adaptation. Through its work, GRC aims to strengthen scientific understanding of grassland systems, improve management practices, and contribute to the sustainable coexistence of ecological protection, resource utilization, and pastoral livelihoods.
