About Branch of Young Scientists (BYS)
The Branch of Young Scientists (BYS) is a dynamic and forward-thinking organization dedicated to empowering early-career researchers and innovators in the field of resource science. Focused on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and leadership development, BYS plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of scientists who will address global resource challenges—from sustainable resource management to climate resilience and technological innovation. By bridging the gap between academic research, industry, and policy, BYS ensures young scientists have the tools, networks, and opportunities to drive impactful solutions for a sustainable future.
The primary activities of BYS include:
- Research Grants and Fellowships :
Providing funding for high-impact projects in areas such as renewable energy systems, sustainable agriculture, and critical minerals recycling.
Offering travel grants for young scientists to attend international conferences or collaborate with global research institutions.
- Mentorship and Training Programs :
Pairing early-career scientists with seasoned experts for career guidance, research collaboration, and skill development (e.g., grant writing, science communication).
Hosting workshops on emerging topics like geospatial analytics for resource mapping or life-cycle assessment tools.
- Interdisciplinary Conferences and Hackathons :
Organizing annual forums (e.g., Global Youth Resource Summit) where young scientists present research, network with peers, and engage in problem-solving challenges.
Facilitating hackathons to design tech-driven solutions for local resource issues, such as urban waste management or rural energy access.
- Science-Policy Interface Initiatives :
Running policy labs where young scientists draft white papers or participate in mock UN negotiations to advocate for sustainable resource policies.
Collaborating with governments to integrate youth perspectives into national resource strategies.
- Community Outreach and Education :
Leading campaigns to educate schools and local communities on resource conservation, climate action, and sustainable lifestyles.
Developing open-access educational kits and digital platforms (e.g., webinars, podcasts) to democratize resource science knowledge.
- Innovation Incubators :
Supporting startups and spin-offs founded by young scientists, particularly in fields like green chemistry, smart water systems, or bio-based materials.
Partnering with industry to pilot scalable technologies (e.g., blockchain for supply chain transparency, drones for ecological monitoring).
- Advocacy for Equity in Science :
Campaigning for fair representation of women, Indigenous scientists, and researchers from low-income regions in resource science leadership roles.
Addressing systemic biases in funding allocation and academic recognition.
- Global Youth Networks :
Building regional chapters and online communities to foster peer-to-peer learning and collaborative research projects.
Collaborating with international bodies like the International Resource Panel (IRP) or Future Earth to amplify youth contributions.
