Land Resources Committee (LRC)

The Land Resources Committee focuses on the assessment, planning, utilization, protection, and governance of land resources. Its work covers land use and land cover change, land suitability evaluation, land degradation, land consolidation, territorial spatial planning, land tenure, land productivity, soil-land interactions, urban-rural land systems, and the relationship between land resources and socio-economic development. The Committee regards land as a foundational resource for agriculture, ecosystems, infrastructure, settlements, and national and regional development.

The mission of LRC is to promote scientific research and professional collaboration on sustainable land resource management. It seeks to improve understanding of land system dynamics and provide evidence for rational land allocation, ecological protection, food security, urban development, and rural revitalization. The Committee encourages interdisciplinary approaches that integrate geography, land science, soil science, ecology, economics, planning, law, remote sensing, and public policy.

The vision of LRC is to support the formation of efficient, equitable, and ecologically responsible land use systems. It advocates land governance that balances development demand with ecological carrying capacity, protects high-quality farmland and critical ecosystems, prevents land degradation, and improves the spatial coordination of production, living, and ecological functions. The Committee also pays attention to the global challenges of urban expansion, rural land transformation, desertification, soil erosion, and competing land-use demands under climate change.

The responsibilities of LRC include organizing academic conferences, research networks, technical consultations, and policy dialogues related to land resources. It supports land resource surveys, spatial analysis, land-use modeling, comparative regional studies, and the development of planning and evaluation methodologies. The Committee may also contribute to reports and recommendations on land management systems, land restoration strategies, territorial spatial governance, and sustainable development indicators. By promoting international cooperation and knowledge exchange, LRC aims to improve scientific capacity in land resource governance and provide practical support for sustainable land use, ecological conservation, and coordinated regional development.
